On Saturday we went to Roccaraso for skiing. It is about a 2 hour drive, and we drove out there for the day. It really is a nice drive. You drive out of Rome and once you get past Tivoli (about 20 miles outside of Rome), you go through the first mountain. After that you drive in between these mountains for an hour. After that, you go down into a valley surrounded by mountains. Then you drive up into a the mountains where there is a plateau type area at the base of the ski resort. It is a beautiful drive.
We skied most of the day and drove home after. It was really a nice day once I got my skis under me. When we started, I couldn't do anything right. It was so terrible. By the end of the day, I was better (thank goodness). I was so tired last night that I fell asleep around 8 pm. Today I am paying for the fun though. I am so sore! And on to the pictures :)
This is a picture as we were heading from the valley into the mountains near the ski resort. You can see the road up in the mountains if you look closely.
Aaron posing on the top of the mountain. This was very early in the day so the sun was really bright in his face. It gives a good idea of how bare the mountain tops are.
Aaron ready to ski. He looks serious, right?
A self portrait on one of the ski lifts.
Kelly getting ready to ski. You can see on or two of the trails in the background along with many mountains.
Kelly with some mountains in the background. This was at an Auto Grill (rest area with restaurant, etc) on the return trip to Rome. The mountains were really beautiful with the sun setting.
Tomorrow I will work on a description from Sunday!
