Did anyone actually read that?

That's my question...did anyone actually read all those vacation posts? Probably too much detail for most people, but I enjoyed writing about all the things we did. I did way more than I had expected to! Oh well...it is what it is.

The past week and a half since vacation have been crazy. The week after vacation we hosted a meeting here in Rome, and that took up a ton of time.

On Saturday we went to the Vatican for the Scavi Tour, which was excellent. This was something I had scheduled a while ago (you have to plan way in advance to get a tour). Way back there was a Roman Necropolis (city of the dead, cemetery back in Roman times were buildings above ground). According to studies, this is where St. Peter was buried. Then around 335 Constatine built a basilica on top of that. When they did this, they filled in the Necropolis with dirt and destroyed some of the tops of buildings (built on a hill). Then San Pietro was built on top of that (late 1500s, finished in 1600s). In 1940 the Pope at that time decided to start excavations under San Pietro to find out more about St. Peter and the Necropolis. This tour took us down into these ruins. It was cool to hear the history of the buildings and about the excavations and things they learned. It was so worthwhile.

This week has been crazy again, but mainly just because there are so many things going on. Monday night was Italian lessons. Tuesday night we had dinner with a friend who is in town. Wednesday was class again (UGH...bad night of class last night). Tonight we have dinner to meet the K&M's kids.

We are keeping busy as our time here is getting smaller and smaller :( We are trying to get all of our site seeing completed before we go, so we are doing a ton of stuff!

Ciao ciao!

I tried to read it all. There's only so much you can read before saying, "Dammit, I wish I was skiing with the European ski bunnies." How come no pictures of them? I guess this is a family-oriented blog...
