Ski Vacation - Saturday and Sunday - Trip Home - Days 9 and 10

Trip from St. Anton to Munich

Yeah, this trip was bad (Saturday). Really bad. We were supposed to have a nearly 4 hour trip back to Munich on the train. It ended up taking closer to 10. Yeah, not a great day. It turns out that there was Hurricane Emma coming through the area. The trains were delayed by HOURS, and the tracks were closed for a section between Innsbruck and Munich. We got to Innsbruck a few hours late and had to take a regional train the rest of the way back to go around the problem area (4 hours instead of 1.5 hours). Fun stuff! We eventually made it to the Golden Tulip Hotel in Eching (which was very nice by the way) at around 9:30. We had dinner there and that was enough excitement for the rest of the trip.

Aaron during our delay. We stood in the cold train station for over 3 hours. Not exactly the most fun thing to do.

The ski mountain. They were only running one lift on this side of the mountain. Yeah, we were glad to not be skiing!

Aaron and Matt when our train was finally going to arrive!

Munich to Rome
We got up and had some breakfast at the hotel. Aaron had his weisswurst and then we packed and went to the airport. We relaxed, had a beer, ate some lunch, and took our plane out. It was a rough ascent because of the extremely high winds, but we left on time (a feat on this trip). We got to Rome early and got out of the airport in decent time. Unfortunately, traffic was backed up from the airport to the GRA (over 1 hour for a 10 minute drive). After that it was smooth sailing home to the apartment.

I do have to say we had a good flight...the weather was clear in the southern Alps, and we had beautiful skies. The sun was setting, and the colors were fantastic. We saw vibrant pinks and reds on the horizon, and the clouds were lit up in ways I hadn't seen before. So after all the travel that was bad, it was a definite highlight :)

All right...that was the entire ski vacation. Unfortunately, the off-piste skiing wasn't great. The weather was sunny and nice for most of it, which was great. We had a great time. St. Anton was different than I had expected, but it was a nice place with a lot of skiing to offer!

Ciao ciao!
