On Monday we made plans to meet up with our former coworker and friend, W. He lives in Germany about 2 hours away from the resort, and he was kind enough to come down to join us (and show us around). We had a great time visiting and skiing.
We had a 10 am deadline to be across the resort to meet W., so took an early bus. Maybe it was a little too early, because we were the first in line to go up the Nasserein Bahn. Doesn't Matt look thrilled?
To meet W., we skied across to Alpe Rauz. This wasn't easy as we had to traverse over towards the Galzig area, off the back side to a series of lifts, and down to Alpe Rauz. It wasn't easy on Matt as there are some flats to cross. Oh well...he survived. When we met W., he drove us over to the bottom of Zurs where we followed the ski tour around to Oberlech, Lech, and back to Zurs.
This is Aaron skiing in the Zurs area. It was very pretty and had some nice terrain.
We had to go over the Madloch-Joch pass (really high) and take a ski route (not groomed trail) down to Zug. This was a neat looking area but was tough because there was a lot of flat spots for pushing. I took a photo of Aaron up in this area.
We skied down to Zug (not an easy task as it is a LONG way down - about 1000 meters/3280 feet of vertical - no wonder we were so tired). This is a picture at some point as we were working our way down. The buildings are the town of Zug, and you can see the lift coming out of the town. At the top of that lift, there were a bunch of other lifts and runs to ski. It was really nice up there. There was even a speed checker where you could tuck and go fast down a "lane", and it measured you with a radar gun. We got beat by W.
W. and Matt at the top of Zug (Oberlech). Matt was pretty tired by this point from all the pushing :) This was taken at the bottom of the lift going up to Zuger Hochlicht.
This is that lift that we went up. It was an 8 person high speed lift with the four of us on it. Here are the guys.
And me, too!
Matt, W., and Aaron at the top. The mountains are amazing :)
A picture of Aaron and I that W. took. I have no idea where this is, but it is a nice photo of the two of us :)
Matt, Aaron and I in Oberlech where we had a mid-afternoon snack of Germknodel. It is a giant bread dumpling with vanilla sauce. Yummy!
We skied into Lech, which is the super rich town. We had to walk across the road to take on of the two trams called Rufikopfbahn. We skied some nice terrain to the T-bar, and then back over to the parking area at Zurs. Matt and I skipped the run up the tram (Trittkopfbahn) near the parking area because we were exhausted (W. and Aaron enjoyed a run down from it though). It was a fun day and neat to see the other ski areas. W. drove us back to St. Anton for an evening of much needed rest.

So let me get this straight. You skied between towns? How cool is that? And how cool is it to have a town called Zug? Aaron and Matt must have had a good giggle about that. Zug Zug, hehehe. And an amazing 1km trail?
Matt really needs to make it look like he's having fun. Maybe he needs a certain musical instrument to bring him to life. ;)
