Ski Vacation - Thursday - Skiing - Day 7

Fifth Day of Skiing

We saw the sun again when we woke up on Thursday morning. The difference was that it was cold all day! There was no happiness from Matt! The conditions were snow covered and slick. It wasn't icy like we are used to in the Northeast....I thought it good conditions, but that is only my opinion. It was probably because it was the first day where I didn't suffer :)

We started out the day by skiing around a little on the Nasserein side and then headed down to the Galzigbahn. We did some runs off the Osthang until Aaron and I decided to go up the Vallugabahn (Tram). It starts from the the top of the Galzigbahn at 2185 meters and crosses a valley. It passes over that scary triple chair and up to 2650 meters. Too get on, we had to wait in line for a while (a tram only has 2 cars that are packed with people...they alternate directions to shuttle people back and forth). Matt decided to skip the fun, but it was a good choice based on the terrain up there.

Aaron posing on the Osthang runs. It looks like he is by himself in the middle of nowhere, right? :)

Here are Aaron and I inside the tram. It is terribly uncomfortable because you are shoved in there with ski equipment. Luckily we were by the window, so we were able to enjoy some beautiful views during the ride.

A picture from the tram at about halfway across the valley. You can see the buildings down below if you look closely.

This is the one trail that comes off the tram. It was in great condition and was empty when we went down. You ski down off the back of the lift into a glacial valley. Then you had to take this really steep T-Bar up 150 meters or so. Then there was an awesome ski route that was in great condition that we took down back to civilization (we skipped the marked trail from the triple). This was a great decision as it was a really nice trail!

We skied down to the Zammermoosbahn and met up with Matt. We skied down to St. Christoph for lunch (goulash and apfelstrudel...yum). The trail coming down had great terrain, but it was crowded because there was only one trail (and off-piste was not in great condition).

After lunch we made the trek over to Rendl because we thought the afternoon sun would soften the snow. Yeah, we were very wrong on that one! It was very slick because of the wind direction. We survived though and skied until right up to 4!

Aaron hamming it up on Rendl. I picked this picture because if you look at the sky in the distance you can see crummy weather coming back in. Yuck!

Another day done :)
